Are you planning a Virginia, beach vacation? Well you might want to visit Colonial Beach Virginia and check out our attractions.

So how do we stack up to other beach resorts in Virginia? Well…
Ranked 3rd by travel.usnews
According to Travel.usnews, Colonial Beach ranks third just under Virginia Beach and Westmoreland State Park. Yes the state park has a fairly nice beach area and the good news is it’s just minutes from Colonial Beach so you can visit both and decide for yourself.
For many living here in Colonial Beach, we totally understand why our little slice of paradise would rank higher than places like Cape Charles, Hampton Virginia or Lake Anna State Park.
Our small town charm and welcoming atmosphere makes visitors want to come back again and again.
That small town charm is reflected in the laid back relaxed attitude of many residents and visitors. Sharing the road with golf carts proves we are some really easy going people. The fact that the only traffic light in the town is technically outside of the original town limits proves we are relaxed.
The annexation of some land across the main route into Colonial Beach (Route 205), has made the need for a traffic light, just barely justified. Although the traffic light does help keep a few accidents from occasionally happening the majority of the time it settles the far-too-often dispute when residents insist that the “other guy” go first and the “other guy” disagrees arguing, “you’ve got the right of way!”
Ranked 3rd by familydestinationguide as well
But if you don’t think our relaxed atmosphere is a good enough reason to rank Colonial Beach as number 3 then you can look to familydestinationguide who also thinks we rank 3rd.
Aside from, you guessed it, Virginia Beach, in familydestinationguide’s opinion, Sandbridge Beach ranks number 2 on their list! Why? Because their water is clearer. Of course it is, it’s just around the corner from Virginia Beach.
But We are number 3 on their list as well!
Three seems to be our lucky number. Why because we’re the third mentioned beach in “Virginia Is For Lovers” video titled: 5 Relaxing Beaches To Visit!
Our sand is natural to the area, It reflects what is in the water. A mixture of minerals, brackish water and small pebbles line our beaches. We are just around the corner from Westmoreland Shores where cliffs are constantly eroding and revealing many fossils. The majority of those are fossilized sharks teeth. But due to the flow of the river, rarely does a sharks tooth wash up in the beaches here in town.
Just a few miles up the road, George Washington’s Birthplace, has a small public stretch of beach where you can find many sharks teeth. However it is unlawful to take them home since removing any natural items from the park is illegal. But it’s a fun experience to find them and throw them back.
